Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Co. announced on Tuesday that Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Max von Sydow will join original trilogy actors Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in J.J. Abrams's Star Wars: Episode VII. Peter Mayhew is also returning as Chewbacca and Kenny Baker is back as R2-D2 for the film, slated for release on Dec. 18, 2015.
While descriptions of each character were not revealed, get to know the new faces of Episode VII:
Adam Driver: The Girls actor and Emmy nominee, 30, is TV's favorite hipster. Before hitting it big on the HBO series, Driver spent nearly three years in the U.S. Marines shortly after 9/11. He was deployed to Iraq before injuring his sternum in a biking accident and received an honorable medical discharge.
Oscar Isaac: The Golden Globe nominee, 35, showed off his musical chops and earned rave reviews for his performance as a struggling folk singer in Joel and Ethan Coen's 2013 drama Inside Llewyn Davis. Before working as an actor, Isaac played in a band called the Blinking Underdogs.
Domhnall Gleeson: The rising Irish star, 31, may be recognized for playing Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. His father is veteran actor Brendan Gleeson, who also appeared in Harry Potter as Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody. The Tony nominee's big break came last year when he starred in the romantic drama About Time with Rachel McAdams. Moviegoers can see Domhnall in Angelina Jolie's second directorial feature, Unbroken, out in December.
Andy Serkis: As the go-to actor for motion-capture roles (he played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings, the title role in King Kong and Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes), the Brit, 50, is expected to act as a digital shape-shifting creature in the new Star Wars film, which is set 30 years after 1983's Return of the Jedi.
John Boyega: Best known for the 2011 science fiction horror comedy Attack the Block, the 22-year-old newcomer studied at the Identity Drama School in London.
Max von Sydow: The 85-year-old Oscar nominee hails from Sweden and starred in classic films such as The Exorcist and The Seventh Seal. He's also appeared in Minority Report with Tom Cruise, and with Sandra Bullock in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Daisy Ridley: Virtually an unknown, the young British actress has appeared in several British TV series, including Mr. Selfridge starring Jeremy Piven. According to her agent's website, Ridley is a swimmer, jazz singer and jazz dancer.
