Kalamazoo Uber Shooter Victim Abigail Kopf, 14, Progressing in Her Recovery

A GoFundMe page launched in the wake of the shooting to help cover some of the 14-year-old's mounting medical expenses says that Kopf opened her eyes for the first time Monday night.
"She looked at us tonight," reads a message posted by Kopf's parents. "Her right eye is too swollen yet, but she managed to open her eyes and recognized us." The positive news comes a day after Kopf's condition was upgraded to fair from serious, according to the site.
Over the weekend, doctors removed Kopf's breathing tube, meaning she is again breathing on her own. She also used a towel to wipe her face, the GoFundMe page says.

In just one week, the donation site has managed to raise nearly $35,000 for Kopf's recovery. Her parents say she could start her rehabilitation therapy as early as next week.
Word of Kopf's continuing progress comes one week after doctors at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan, told reporters her heart had stopped.
In the proceeding days, Abigail managed to squeeze her mother's hand and doctors watched her wiggle her toes, the family says.
Six people died in last month's rampage, including Barbara Hawthorne, 68 – a close family friend who Abigail called her "grandma," the family told PEOPLE.
The accused gunman, Jason Dalton, 45, has been charged with six counts of open murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder and eight counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police allege he opened fire at an apartment complex, a car dealership and a restaurant parking lot.
Abigail was shot as she was returning to a car at a Cracker Barrel restaurant. The four other women who were with her – Barbara Hawthorne, 68; Mary Jo Nye, 60; Judy Brown, 74, all of Battle Creek; and Mary Nye, 62, of Baroda – were killed.
Dalton has yet to enter a plea to the charges.
