On Monday, the singer released a 28-second snippet of his upcoming single "Welcome to the Show," featuring Laleh.
In the same sonic vein as his clubby, melancholic third album The Original High, Lambert, 34, sings: "I'm gonna let them stare; they feel like me out there, so welcome to the show. Bring on all the lights; let it shine on you. We're together here tonight, welcome to the show, welcome to my life, welcome to the show, welcome to my life, welcome to my life."
"I feel this song will give people strength to be exactly who they are," Lambert said of the new track, which will be released in full on Thursday, the same day the star will return to his reality TV alma mater, American Idol, to perform it live for the first time.
Wanting to give fans some new music, Lambert turned to Original High producer Max Martin, who referred him to writer-producer Ali Payami and upcoming Swedish singer-songwriter Laleh.
Now in its final season, American Idol this week airs Thursday, March 17 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
