On Friday, Allison Janney revisited her The West Wing character and stepped up to the podium at the White House and acting as the President's Press Secretary once more.
"Hi everyone, good afternoon," said Janney, 56, during a press briefing. "Josh [Earnest] is out today, I believe it's a root canal," she joked, referencing one of her own character's storylines while poking fun at the real White House Press spokesperson.
After a few more jokes, Earnest walked in and told the actress that, since she was standing at the podium, she "might as well use it." At that, Janney dropped out of character and discussed something more serious: substance abuse.
The Emmy-winning Mom star pulled a page from the script of her current series and informed reporters she was there to "draw attention to the opioid epidemic" and acknowledge those working to help "combat substance-abuse disorder,"
Janney went on to note that the White House is honoring 10 men and women in particular who help fight the epidemic in their local communities.
"All of us can help reduce drug abuse through evidence-based treatment, prevention, and recovery," she said.
Before stepping away from the podium, Janney did take one question: Who would President Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen) support for the 2016 Democratic nomination?
Janney hopped back in character: "I think you know the answer to that question."
Mom airs Thursdays (9 p.m. ET) on CBS.
