"It was so cool to get to jump back to the past," Amy Poehler tells PEOPLE of reuniting with her Wet Hot American Summer castmates for their new Netflix prequel series. "It's rare that you experience such an example of career time travel."
Created by Michael Showalter and David Wain, the cult classic film starred Poehler, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Ian Black, Ken Marino, and Bradley Cooper – all of whom return in the new series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
"The good news is, everyone was as wonderful, funny and immature as they were 15 years ago," Poehler says.
Costar Molly Shannon adds that shooting the prequel series "felt like a fun party," while Elizabeth Banks has said "it was like no time went by."
"We slipped right back into it and the sense of humor in those movies," Banks added. "We got to do some really dumb, stupid, fun things."
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp debuts Friday on Netflix.
