Aziz Ansari wasn't shy about sharing a memorable moment with good friend Jennifer Lawrence, recalling that one time he was "incredibly high" at her movie premiere.

The Master of None creator and star, 33, supported Lawrence – whom he calls "a hilarious, charming person" – at the April 16 debut of the documentary Beautiful Planet, an IMAX and NASA film the 25-year-old Oscar winner narrated.

"It was fun. I was incredibly high," Ansari admitted to PEOPLE at Tuesday's TIME 100 Gala, which he attended as a Pioneers honoree.

"That IMAX screen was so humongous. And since we're friends, it's weird hearing your friend's voice talking about this stuff," he joked about the space exploration documentary. "It's like, why are you telling me about this? It was like she sat me down and said, 'Hey, just so you know!'"

Ansari and Lawrence's friendship is nothing new. They share several mutual friends including Amy Schumer and Chris Pratt, both of whom were seen hanging out with the pair when the foursome made a fun "short film" in October. That same month, Lawrence was seen giving the Netflix star a piggyback ride when they left a Saturday Night Live afterparty. Schumer, 34, Ansari and Lawrence also spent Thanksgiving 2015 together.

Meanwhile at the TIME 100 event, Ansari shared with PEOPLE about the "very nice honor" of being named one of 2016's most influential people. "It's lovely. I'm very proud of our show," he said, adding, "And I imagine that's a big part of why they threw me on the list."
