Police in New York City are investigating whether a baby boy was thrown to his death from a fourth-floor window early Friday.

The 1-month-old boy was found dead near a garbage can in the courtyard of an apartment building on 115th St. near Myrtle Ave. in Richmond Hill, New York, at about 4:10 a.m., a New York police spokesman tells PEOPLE.

The spokesman says the boy's cause of death is still being investigated, but police sources told WABC-TV that investigators suspect the infant was thrown from an apartment window four floors up.

Two people are being questioned in connection with the incident, the spokesman confirms. However, neither one of them is under arrest at this time. WABC reports the infant's mother is one of the people being questioned.
