But a source tells PEOPLE that the woman at the center of a media firestorm isn't necessarily recoiling from the intense scrutiny.
She's "not naïve," a friend of Ouzuonian's tells PEOPLE.
As for the relentless attention being placed on Ouzounian, "she is coping with this fine," the friend says. "She's not pushy. She is very laid-back."
"I guess she is somewhat sophisticated for a 28-year-old – she has worked for Neil Patrick Harris," adds the source. "She is smart ... She comes from a decent background."
Ouzounian has not been spotted publicly since she stepped out in Los Angeles on Wednesday. That day, she was seen at the Hotel Bel-Air, where the nanny claimed to have had trysts with Affleck, 42, according to her friend.
The actor, however, has strongly denied allegations of an affair, saying that they had "a work relationship and a friendship," but that he and Ouzounian never got physical with each other.
Multiple sources have confirmed to PEOPLE that Ouzounian claimed to friends that the relationship did become intimate. "Christine is in love with him," one friend said.
That openness and candor baffles the former nanny's friend. "If she wants to maintain a relationship with Ben, then why say a word?" the friend tells PEOPLE.
Another source previously told PEOPLE that Ouzounian had never been concerned with the trappings of celebrity and fame.
"She was never obsessed with celebrities and only saw working as a nanny for celebs as a good business opportunity to make good money," said a childhood friend of Ouzounian's.
And while the actress has been staying focused and composed in public, a source says that Garner is privately seething about the alleged affair. "She is furious," the source says. "You don't want that in your home."
