Frankel, 43, and ex Jason Hoppy's custody battle over 4-year-old daughter Bryn turned pretty ugly last week. Now that the two have settled, a source close to Frankel tells PEOPLE the former talk show host is glad to put it behind her.
"Bethenny never wanted to take it this far, never wanted this to be dragged out in court," says the source. "She's thrilled this has settled."
And the feeling is mutual. In a statement to PEOPLE, Hoppy's lawyer Bernard Clair said, "My client is delighted that this custody battle has been resolved; that his co-parenting status has been acknowledged; that the parties' child will have the benefit of being raised by both parents; and most importantly, that his daughter will no longer be at the mercy of a high-profile courtroom battle."
While settling the case had been discussed initially, they could not agree on terms.
During her blistering testimony last week, in which she described her and Hoppy's shared living situation as "brutal, horrendous, excruciating," the reality star complained that Hoppy, 43, "Would not let me be alone with Bryn in the apartment" and would "stare at me with a menacing face."
Now, says the source, "Bethenny has rented a place where she and Bryn can have time alone together, and where she doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. Bethenny’s a great mother and she only wants the best for her daughter."
