In good times … and in bad.

In the midst of their grief over surrogate Delphine's April miscarriage, Bill and Giuliana Rancic leaned on each other, and their faith, to keep moving forward.

"It's been a heavy few years for us. You have to just pick yourself up and you keep living," Giuliana, 39, recently told PEOPLE. "But we know that everything will be okay in the end. And there's a saying I like: 'Everything will be okay in the end. And if it's not okay, it's not the end.' "

Added Bill: "We're fighters. Hopefully, we're going to have good news, and Delphine will be on board one more time. We've had to battle it out, and that's something that we're going to continue to do."

The couple have one last chance to add to their family. (Their son Duke, who will be 2 in August, was also born via surrogate.)

"We have one embryo left," Giuliana said of the embryos they had frozen. "I'm on cancer medication for a few more years. I've had to come to terms with the fact that I may never carry a child. With that said, this next embryo, there's no guarantees. In that case, that's it."

So far, the experience, with all of its highs and lows, has strengthened both of them.

"It's a double sadness because we didn't want [Delphine] to feel bad," says Bill, 43. "And Giuliana was rather distraught at first, but she's tough. In times like this we rely on our faith. Once the tears went away we started to look towards the future."
