Like many celebrities before him, scientist Bill Nye confronted his critics on Friday, reading mean messages from Twitter users on camera.

Nye, 59, conducted his own version of Jimmy Kimmel's popular Mean Tweets segments to help promote the Kickstarter raising money for a documentary about the beloved television host.

Mean messages to the man best known for the '90s TV show, Bill Nye the Science Guy, called him "annoying" and "trippy."

"Bill Nye made me hate science to a whole new level because he thought it was fun and I think it still sucks," one user wrote to the star.

Others brought up Nye's outspoken opinions on climate change.

"You pretend the global warming fairy is real even as you live in a mansion. Maybe do cartwheels for voodoo," a user Tweeted, to which Nye responded in the clip with a skeptical look.

"I'm not sure where that comes from," the scientist said.

"Bill Nye wrote a book called Undeniable and I will forever hate him because he did not name it UndeNYEable," another said. While "hate" is a strong word, the user may be right about the missed opportunity for a funny title.

The documentary, titled The Bill Nye Film spotlights the scientist and is directed by Jason Sussberg and David Alvarado.

The film is currently under production and is slated to premiere in 2017. The directors are hoping to crowdsource a total of $650,000 through the Kickstarter.
