Tensions between the two sides of Bobbi Kristina Brown's family came to a head on Monday, as the 22-year-old only child of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston was laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in New Jersey.

A member of the Brown family tells PEOPLE that the conflict with the Houstons created an atmosphere that was like "a circus."

"There were security guards who stood between everyone to make sure that no one got out of the control," the source revealed.

Just as the Browns and the Houstons had engaged in public disagreements about care for Bobbi Kristina during her six-month-long coma, there were also battles over the funeral arrangements. The source added to PEOPLE that the two sides of the family could only find common ground one one topic: the pink-and-purple color scheme.

"Those were Krissy's favorite colors," the source said. "Her bedroom wall was in those colors. We all agreed we should honor Krissy."

Two days previous, Bobbi Kristina's aunt, Leolah Brown, had interrupted the funeral at a church in Alpharetta, Georgia, reportedly yelling at another aunt, Pat Houston, "You know you are wrong for doing this!"

Leolah then left the church, whereupon she told reporters that Whitney Houston would haunt Pat Houston.

"This has only just begun," she said. "We are on to Pat and she will be found out. She is a Garland, not a Houston. Whitney will rise from her grave to haunt her."

Bobbi Kristina died on July 26, surrounded by her family. The Browns and the Houstons had been publicly disagreeing over Bobbi Kristina ever since she was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Roswell, Georgia, home on Jan. 31.

A source recently told PEOPLE that Bobbi Kristina's death had increased tensions.

"Both sides are still not happy and on the same page," the source said. "There is a lot going on behind the scenes. There is a lot to do in a very short time."
