The Houston and Brown family arrived separately to the Murray Brothers Funeral Home on Friday evening in Atlanta, PEOPLE confirms.
The Houston family paid their respects first – led by Whitney Houston's mother Cissy – arriving around 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, members of the Brown family, including Bobbi Kristina's aunts Tina and Leolah and brother Bobby Jr., patiently waited in their cars before making their own way into the funeral home once the Houstons had departed. Her father Bobby was accompanied by his wife, Alicia.
Both families entered through a back entrance, and Bobby's security put up a black and white umbrella to shield his family when they left.
Bobby looked understandably devastated as he left the funeral home in a white limousine.
On Saturday morning, the invitation-only service will take place at the Saint James United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. On Thursday afternoon boyfriend Nick Gordon, who is facing a $40 million civil lawsuit filed by Bobbi Kristina's conservators, made a last-ditch effort to attend, sending Brown and aunt Pat Houston an email begging to be allowed in.
There have been reports of conflicting funeral plans for the only child of Brown and the late singer Houston, who is expected to be laid to rest beside her mother in New Jersey on Monday.
Brown, 22, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, nearly six months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her Roswell, Georgia, home on Jan. 31.
