Casey Kasem's health took a sudden turn for the worse Thursday, and his family was gathering at a Washington State hospital.

The veteran deejay suffered a sharp drop in blood pressure; his two daughters were already at the hospital with him, and his son was on his way.

A spokesman for St. Anthony Hospital told CNN that Kasem, 82, was alert but in critical condition – and receiving antibiotics through IVs, medicine for blood pressure and care for bed sores.

"Mr. Kasem is alert and appears comfortable at this time," the spokesman said.

"His health is worse. We're just not sure how bad at this point," a rep for Kasem's daughter Kerri Kasem told PEOPLE Thursday.

The fight for control over his medical care has divided his loved ones. It took an ugly turn when Kasem was transported in an ambulance Sunday after Jean Kasem, his second wife, threw hamburger meat at his daughter Kerri.

The bizarre incident capped off a long battle. In May, Kasem disappeared from his care facility in Santa Monica, California. His children said they did not know the whereabouts of their father, who suffers from advanced Parkinson's disease. Authorities found him near Seattle, where Jean had quietly transferred him.

"This poor man was moved in the middle of the night," Kerri told PEOPLE. "This is no vacation. This is a man who has a feeding tube, hooked up to an IV and has dementia. This is not a man who needs to be in unfamiliar surroundings."

A judge later ruled that Kerri could choose a doctor to examine Kasem.
