According to a press release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded on Saturday morning to report of battery that occurred outside a hotel room at the Palms Casino Resort. The officers met with a female victim "who appeared to have minor injuries sustained as a result of a battery."
According to the police, the victim, who was attending a party in a hotel room, got into an argument with Brown when she tried to take a photo of him with her cell phone. "The victim was alleged to have been battered by Brown, who at the same time took her cell phone," the statement reads. "A verbal altercation took place as the victim was escorted out of the room by private security and into the hallway."
The victim was reportedly escorted off the hotel property by hotel security and later returned to report the incident. According to the police, when detectives arrived on the scene they attempted to contact Brown in the hotel room but were not allowed inside. Police say they later determined that Brown had left the hotel room.
"The LVMPD has not heard from Mr. Brown regarding this incident and the investigation remains on going," the release states. "A crime report has been taken for misdemeanor theft and misdemeanor battery listing Mr. Brown as a suspect."
In a statement to PEOPLE, Brown's rep called the victim's statements to police "unequivocally untrue" and that the victim was escorted out of the hotel by security because of her "wild behavior" while allegedly having a "total meltdown."
"Her claim that she had her phone in her possession inside the after party and was able to take a photo causing an altercation with Chris Brown is a complete fabrication," says the rep. "This seems like a clear case of retaliation for her bruised ego."
This is not Brown's first brush with the law. In June 2009, the singer pleaded guilty to felony assault against his then-girlfriend Rihanna. He accepted a plea deal of community labor, five years' formal probation, and domestic violence counseling. His probation formally ended in March 2015.
In October 2013, Brown was charged with misdemeanor assault after an altercation broke out when two women tried to take his photo. After he was charged, the singer voluntarily entered rehab and, in November 2013, was sentenced to 90 days at an anger management rehab facility.
Brown was in Vegas to perform at Drai's at the Cromwell on Friday night.
