Don't expect Chris Martin to stop singing the truth.
At Friday night's Coldplay iHeartRadio Album release party for Ghost Stories
in Burbank, Martin, 37, told the crowd and host Elvis Duran that no song is too personal to put out there for the world to hear.
"We made the decision about 15 years ago that being open and vulnerable would be the thing that we would do," said Martin, whose band's new album is out Monday. "That means that what we sometimes lose in poeticism, we gain just by truth."
Martin's private life got very public when he and wife Gwyneth Paltrow
, 41, announced in March that they were splitting after 10 years
Their breakup launched lots of "conscious uncoupling"
discussion – as the couple, who continue to live together
, work through their separation in a non-conventional way.
Since Paltrow and Martin went public with their separation, they've been out together repeatedly, and have often been seen together with their children
, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.
Whatever is next for the actress
and her "uncoupled" musician
ex, Martin won't be hiding any of his songs, he insists.
"That's something that means something to me, but I never want to say what it's about because it might mean something to someone else," Martin told the crowd. "Hopefully, whatever we're singing is real."
The private iHeartRadio event will be aired across Clear Channel CHR, Hot-AC, Alt and AAA stations across the country (which are also available on iHeartRadio.com), and will stream exclusively on Yahoo! Monday at 6 p.m. ET.
