Couple's Ashes Shot into Space Together (VIDEO)

One couple is taking the ultimate journey together, even if they're not exactly around to "see" it.

Mesoloft offers its customers a unique "final resting place": The Earth's atmosphere itself.

Its first customers are Lois and John, whose children wanted their ashes scattered in space.

On Sept. 26, Mesoloft did exactly that, launching the pair's ashes over 70,000 feet up into space.

As the company explains, "over the next days, weeks, and months, those ashes will be carried by the winds all over the world. As the ashes settle back to the surface they will land on mountaintops, valleys, deserts, and oceans. Wherever their families travel, Lois and John will always be there with them."

"[John and Lois] loved to travel," daughter Misty told Mesoloft. "They were traveling buddies, and [they] had their little map and they would 'pin' all the places they had been. John loved history, and he really loved anything new and exciting. And mom loved sharing new and exciting things with him."

"Sending their co-mingled ashes into the upper reaches of near space, where they will travel for who knows how long, and who knows how far, just seemed so right," Misty added. "What an adventure! It makes me smile every time I think about it."

The Mesoloft team comes to its unique calling from aerospace engineering and satellite backgrounds. And though their "standard launch package" isn't cheap (it starts at $2,800), factoring in the cost of a traditional funeral makes it look a lot more reasonable.

And really, why not get closer to Heaven?
