Cobain committed suicide over 20 years ago, but a recent lawsuit claims that the release of the sealed photos will prove that he was murdered, the Associated Press reports.
Doyle will listen to arguments on Friday and decide whether or not to move forward with a trial that came about after Richard Lee, who runs a Seattle public access TV show, filed a lawsuit against the city and the Seattle Police Department.

The pair wrote a letter to the court describing the negative impacts the release of the photos would have on them.
"I have had to cope with many personal issues because of my father's death," Frances wrote. "Coping with even the possibility that those photographs could be made public is very difficult. Further sensationalizing it through the release of the these pictures would cause us indescribable pain."
According to a release neither of them have seen the photos. Last year, two never before seen photos were released by the Seattle police.
