Two months after welcoming their first child together, David Arquette and Christina McLarty are now engaged, the actor's rep confirms.
Arquette, 42, popped the question to McLarty, 33, at Mastro's Ocean Club in Malibu, a source tells PEOPLE. "He wanted his family to be with him when he did it," the source says, adding that "they are going to vacation in Aspen to celebrate."
Mastro's has a special connection to the actor: On Friday, to celebrate Fourth of July, Arquette's L.A. night spot, Bootsy Bellows, will be hosting a pop-up event at Mastro's, right where the actor proposed.
Arquette and McLarty have been dating on and off since 2011, and on April 28, she gave birth to their son, Charlie West.
Arquette's happy news comes a week after his ex-wife, Courteney Cox, announced that she herself was engaged – to boyfriend Johnny McDaid.
Cox and Arquette – who were married for 11 years and have a 10-year-old daughter together, Coco – were officially divorced in May 2013 but have remained friendly since splitting up.
Earlier this year, Arquette opened up to PEOPLE about fatherhood and the impending arrival of his first child with McLarty, a former reporter for Entertainment Tonight.
"I've done it once so there’s not that fear that a first-time parent has because you just don’t know what to expect," Arquette said. "You have to have a lot of faith that you will be able to keep them safe and not mess them up too much."
The engagement was first reported by E! News.
