A former producer of Discovery's Deadliest Catch was shot and killed near his parents home in Pasadena, California, on Friday, multiple reports confirm.

According to ABC 7 News family members identified the body to be Joe McMahon, 25.

Discovery issued a statement, saying: "We are heartsick about this tragedy–our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him."

McMahon was an associate producer for the network in 2013, when he worked on nine episodes of Deadliest Catch.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence in the Chapman Woods neighborhood of Pasadena shortly after 2 a.m. after they received a call about possible gunshots in the area, ABC 7 News reports. When they arrived, officers found the young producer suffering from gunshot wounds in a neighbors driveway – just one away from his own home on Yorkshire Road.

Officers have not yet determined motive, but an investigation is in process. The crime is not believed to have been drug or gang related.
