The singers lit up social media after Swift, 25, responded to a message Minaj, 32, posted on Twitter regarding the MTV Video Music Awards that stated, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."
Swift, who was nominated in the category alongside Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar, responded to Minaj: "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.."
Fellow nominees Mars and Sheeran then got in on the action, engaging in their own Twitter feud, tongue firmly in cheek.
Mars not-so-subtly kicked things off: "Yo I want in on this twitter Beef!! VMAs is the new WWF!! @edsheeran F--- You!"
Sheeran accepted the challenged, following up with a faux menacing message of his own that led to funny response from Mars.
@BrunoMars any way we do dis you gon' come up short— Ed Sheeran (@edsheeran) July 22, 2015
That Cut deep..U always know how to sheer me to the core. I can't believe we're Sheeran this in public. How dare u! https://t.co/fdYOVnlScF— Bruno Mars (@BrunoMars) July 22, 2015
Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul also weighed in on Twitter, jokingly offering to set up a carb-filled truce:
Last but not least, a social media feud would not be complete without a little Kim Kardashian West in the mix – although the singer feigns innocence on her involvement.
Shortly after the feud broke out, the reality star posted – and then deleted – an image of herself with the caption "Imma let you finish but..."
The quote references the statement husband Kanye West uttered as he rushed the stage as Swift accepted her award for best female video at the 2009 VMAs, besting singers including Beyoncé, much to West's dismay.
However, Kardashian West says it was all a big coincidence, and that she simply saw the photo of herself and thought the caption was perfect.
I'm not trying to shade anyone! That's not my style! I just thought that caption was perfect for that pic! Changing the caption now! #ironic— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) July 21, 2015
Minaj and Swift have yet to suggest an alternate caption.
