As Tuesday marks one year since the former View co-host joined Fox & Friends, Hasselbeck, 37, tells PEOPLE it wasn't exactly easy adjusting to her new morning routine.
"At first when your schedule changes so dramatically and your alarm is going off at 2:30 in the morning, you definitely think there is an urgent matter at hand such as something quite wrong," she says. "I mean, I was almost reaching for the fire extinguisher a couple of times."
But with her first full year at Fox behind her, Hasselbeck is getting in the early morning groove.
"I can't believe it's gone by so quickly," she says. "I wake up and I'm excited to get in the car and get to work."
And when it comes to balancing her family and a full-time job, the mom of three says it's a team effort between her and husband Tim.
"I'm not the one pouring milk in the kids' cereal bowls, but we have a schedule that's flexible enough where my husband can be there," she says. "I just can't wait for them to get out of school. I'm outside of their classrooms, much to their dismay, looking in the window."
While her children Grace, 9, Taylor, 6, and Isaiah, 5, might be her three biggest fans, they still offer up some on-camera critiques.
"My youngest, Isaiah, in the most lovely way tends to notice when my 'kid hair' starts coming in," she says. "Meaning my roots. He'll say, 'I notice that your kid hair was showing today.' How fun, I will make an appointment immediately to get some foils in there. So they are quite observant."
