The first official trailer for the highly anticipated film The Girl on the Train has arrived – and it's just as gripping and suspenseful as one would expect.

In the film, based on the Paula Hawkins best-selling novel, Emily Blunt takes on the lead role of Rachel, a heavy drinker who becomes obsessed with a couple she regularly sees on her morning train ride to work.

When the woman, who just happens to be her ex-husband Tom's (Justin Theroux) nanny, goes missing, Rachel finds herself entangled with an investigation. To make matters worse, she can't remember anything about the night before the nanny (Haley Bennett) went missing.

"What did you do during those hours that night," an investigator asks Rachel.

"I don't remember," she answers. "There's some time missing."

Blunt's character quickly finds herself a suspect battling to clear her name.

"Why are you here?" a man can be heard asking.

"Because I'm afraid of myself," Rachel responds.

A slowed-down version of Kanye West's hit "Heartless" provides the soundtrack to the trailer, giving it a similar feel and tone to 2014's Gone Girl.

Also starring Rebecca Ferguson, Luke Evans and Lisa Kudrow, The Girl on the Train hits theaters Oct. 7, 2016.
