The actress, 25, swooped in to save the day when boyfriend (and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 costar) Andrew Garfield got himself in a spiderweb-sticky situation. During a Yahoo Q&A with kids last week, Garfield offhandedly called sewing "feminine" – a comment he quickly regretted.
"How did Spider-Man get his costume?" a young boy innocently asked Garfield, 30.
"He made it with his bare hands. He sewed it, he took some sewing classes, and some needlework, some pinpoint, needlepoint classes," the star joked. "It's kind of a feminine thing to do, but uh, he really kind of made a very masculine costume out of a very feminine – "
But Stone couldn't let that slide.
"It's feminine how?" she challenged, as the audience and cast member Jamie Foxx gasped and giggled.
After some back-and-forth, Garfield spun his answer using his own superhero as an example: his mom.
"I would say that femininity is about more delicacy," he said. "And precision, and detail-work and craftsmanship. Like my mother, she's an amazing craftsman. She in fact made my first Spider-Man costume when I was 3, so I use it as a compliment. It's a compliment of the feminine not just in women but in men as well."
Turning to his pint-sized fan, Garfield shared a lesson important for any modern-day child: "We all have feminine in us, young man."
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2.
