Or so the Magic in the Moonlight actress told David Letterman Wednesday night during a Late Show appearance that sweetly, yet strangely, touched upon her interactions with the beyond.
Stone, 25, who plays a fake medium/mind reader in the new Woody Allen romantic comedy, told the retiring late-night host that her long-deceased grandfather brings her and other family members quarters.
The reason? Well, it's complicated.
"There's a long family history with quarters. My grandfather leaves quarters. And it's just amazing. It's him! It's absolutely him," she said on the show. "It's such a long story that you'd have to go to commercial five times and roll to a clip and then come back and I'd still be telling the story. But it's him, you guys, it's him!"
Even Stone, who never even met her grandfather when he was alive and capable of delivering quarters the old-fashioned way (by making it materialize behind an excited young grandchild's ear), can't explain why this happens.
She just embraces the experience.
"It's not a logical thing," she says. "It's magical."
