That's exactly what happened to Mario Diaz of New York City's PIX11 news during the 5 p.m. nightly news broadcast on Friday. Just as he was trying to explain the bizarre antics of another celeb, Badu strode into frame and then tried to plant one on Diaz, who handled the kiss ambush like a pro.
Of course, he and the PIX11 audience didn't immediately realize that the news-ruining, large-hatted stranger was a famous singer. Badu apologized to Diaz on Twitter shortly thereafter, and Diaz (again, like a pro) responded with lyrics from Prince's "Kiss."
@fatbellybella I get it because... "Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with I just want your extra time and your..... kiss"— Mario Diaz (@MarioPIX11) June 28, 2014
@fatbellybella After she figured out what really happened she laughed and said, "Great taste." Next time I won't do the NYC push back.— Mario Diaz (@MarioPIX11) June 28, 2014
And Diaz and Badu were still at it on Monday morning.
It's not Diaz's first time coping with the perils of live TV, however. PIX11's own post on the incident notes that in 1993 a paraglider narrowly missed crashing into him while was reporting on an Evander Holyfield boxing match. A few years after that, Tiger Woods photobombed Diaz's report about the golfer.
NSFW warning! A viewer's Vine of the attempted kiss shows that Badu also threw in an obscene gesture for good measure.
