As LFO was fond of reminding us, "Michael J. Fox was Alex P. Keaton" on the hit 1980s sitcom Family Ties, a crucial part of NBC's long-running Thursday night comedy block, which ends with the network's fall 2014 schedule.

But beyond its young star, a number of famous actors also started their journey to fame and fortune with bit parts on the series. To celebrate this week's 25th anniversary of the Family Ties finale (the curtain call of which you can watch above), let's revisit some of the series' most significant cameos.

Tom Hanks as Uncle Ned

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Dougie

River Phoenix as Eugene Forbes

Corey Feldman as Walter

(Wil Wheaton also guested on the series, meaning that Family Ties played host to 3/4 of the cast of Stand by Me – save that for your next '80s trivia night!)

Crispin Glover as Doug

Christina Applegate as Kitten

Geena Davis as Karen

And, as a bonus, here's Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the short-lived Family Ties spin-off, The Art of Being Nick:
