Inside Story: Why Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Were Destined to Work in Fashion – Even from Their Days on Full House

When they were little, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were all about Full House.

"Their mother would tell me that they sometimes cried on Saturday or Sunday mornings because she would say, 'No, it's not a Full House day,' " executive producer Bob Boyett, who cast the twins as Michelle, told PEOPLE last year.

"So I do think they loved doing it. But when you think about it, they didn't have a choice early on. What one does as a kid might change."

It did for the 29-year-old stars, who declined to take part in the Netflix spinoff Fuller House, citing scheduling conflicts and a reluctance to return to acting. The Olsens now work as fashion designers with two lines of their own, Elizabeth & James and The Row.

"They loved what they were doing as kids, they loved the show. But I don't think in their life they wanted to be actresses," added Boyett. "They wanted to be just what they are."

From a very young age, their penchant for clothes was apparent.

"They always loved dressing up and fashion. When they were little girls, we'd say, 'Let's see your pretty dresses that you're going to wear' for the show.' They were so excited," said Boyett.

Fashion, "has always been in their bones, somehow.”

Still, Boyett and others involved on the show aren't ruling out a return for Michelle if there is a season 2 of the spinoff.

"They've never closed the door to anything," said Boyett

Added show creator and fellow EP Jeff Franklin, "I hope that someday they'll decide that it seems like fun to come back and visit us. I'm hoping that will happen. They were missed."

Fuller House is now streaming on Netflix.
