The couple from Surrey, England, tied the knot in London on Friday – and walked straight into a cheering crowd of 200 people who thought, erroneously, that it was George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin getting married.
The Oscar winner, 53, and his bride-to-be were rumored to be holding a civil ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall – this despite the wedding registrar posting a note at 8 a.m. emphasizing that they were "NOT conducting the wedding of Mr. Clooney."
"We didn't have any idea about this," Mrs. English told PEOPLE. "When I came in this morning, I just saw this mass of people and started thinking, 'What on earth is that?' Now I know how it feels to be famous!"
As for Clooney and Alamuddin, the wedding notice they posted last month at Chelsea Town Hall specified that they planned to wed in Italy. And Clooney has said he's looking forward to tying the knot in a few weeks.
