In the week following the accident, the actor, 72, received daily visits at his bedside from Flockhart, 50, who regularly headed to the Los Angeles hospital after taking the couple's 14-year-old son Liam to school.
"She drops Liam off in the morning and then spends hours with Harrison," says a source. "She brings him food and reading material."
The couple, who wed in 2010 after eight years together, have discussed their shared passion for flying in the past and a source told PEOPLE that the crash and its aftermath have been "terrifying" for them.
A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board states that the crash was caused by "substantial damage following a loss of engine power."
An eyewitness on the scene previously told PEOPLE that Ford suffered a five- or six-inch gash about "the size of a pancake." However, a surgeon said that the inures to his face and scalp will "heal very well and fade with time."
