The trailer for the next film in the popular Hunger Games series made its premiere at Comic-Con on Friday.
Fans gathered at the Capitol Gallery in downtown San Diego, where holographic versions of victors Peeta Meelark (Josh Hutcherson) and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) offered visitors a silent welcome before the minute-long teaser trailer was shown.
The Mockingjay Part 1 trailer (which won't be available online until Monday) opens with a hovership landing and a meeting between leaders of the rebellion, where Philip Seymour Hoffman and a gray-haired Julianne Moore discuss Katniss Everdeen's role. Meanwhile, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) declares the Mockingjay symbol illegal.
Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is shown entering the underground bunker where refugees of Panem are hiding, and she agrees to take up their cause.
Lara Slabber and her mother, Alma, were among the fans who'd lined up for more than four hours to see the trailer. "I thought it was amazing," Lara told PEOPLE. "This one looks like it's going to be even better than the rest. The special effects look beautiful. It definitely feels darker with the emphasis on the war. I loved it all. I wanted to watch it more than twice."
Being the first to see the trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I was only part of the Capitol Gallery experience, which occupied part of the Hard Rock Hotel. In an all-white setting inspired by President Snow's Capitol color scheme, visitors could enjoy treats from Peeta's bakery, check out colorful Capitol fashions, design souvenir T-shirts and have their photo taken with the holographic characters.
While the rest of the world will have to wait until Monday for the full trailer, Hunger Games fans can get a feel for the clip through the flurry of social reactions. Below, see what those at Comic-Con already have to say about the new spot.
