Oh, what fun turning one is – especially for Israel Dillard!

Besides being able to now start counting his age with his hands, Israel had whole slew of "firsts" to accompany his first birthday.

"On Sunday you got to try cake and ice cream for the first time with a bunch of your friends watching you (you smeared it all over your legs! lol)," his mother, Jill (Duggar) Dillard, posted on the family's blog to "document many of those little things in the form of a journal entry/note to Israel, that he can read for many years to come."

She added: "You are a handsome little fella, and here in Central America you stand out a little with your blonde hair and blue eyes."

The family started the celebration on Sunday with some friends, and will continue to honor their little one tonight with a piñata and a party with other children at church.

The Dillards are currently doing missionary work in Central America, and Jill's sister Jessa (Duggar) Seewald posted a picture of her baby son Spurgeon video chatting with his big cousin.

"Happy first birthday, Israel! Love & miss you! Wish we could be there to celebrate with you! #happyfirstcakeday," his aunt Jessa wrote on her Twitter, along with a sweet photo.

Israel's grandparents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar posted a video message praising their grandson for already learning a little Spanish.

"Hola, señor!" joked Jim Bob, with the happy grandparents expressing their disbelief that Israel is already 1.

Dillard and her husband Derrick welcomed Israel, their first child, on April 6, 2015 after a difficult delivery of 70 hours of intense labor.

"A year ago today we held you for the first time and thanked God for giving us you!" Dillard, 24, continued in her blog post Wednesday.

"Israel, momma and papa love you so much and pray your first birthday is just the beginning of many more happy ones to come! XOXOXO."
