Dropped star Jacqueline Laurita is returning to The Real Housewives of New Jersey for a few episodes, a source confirms to PEOPLE.
"Jacqueline wasn't happy to not be returning to the show [as a cast member]. She was sad about it," an insider said.
The ratings for the sixth season, which premiered July 13, have been struggling, and fan favorite Laurita's return might provide the necessary spark to boost viewership.
"Now that Jacqueline is coming back for a few episodes, it's Bravo's way of trying to stir up drama. And it probably will," the source said.
Laurita, 44, had been on Bravo's hit reality franchise for five seasons and was let go after sister-in-law Dina Manzo, 42, said she wouldn't return full time if she and sister Caroline Manzo, 52, were part of the cast.
"Caroline was fine not doing it since she had Manzo'd with Children [a new Bravo reality series featuring her husband and kids] and moving on was just logical," added the source.
Dina and Laurita's paths will likely not cross during filming, as she has reportedly only shot scenes with Teresa Giudice's cousin, Kathy Wakile.
A rep for Bravo did not respond to a request for comment.
