A Virginia man has been charged with murder in the death of 25-year-old Massachusetts mom Jaimee Mendez, who went missing last November.

Jason Fleury, 37, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a grand jury indicted him last Friday for murder, CBS News reports.

Mendez was last heard from in November after she called a friend and said she was with a man who made her "nervous."

"She said, 'Listen, I'm on this street, I'm with this guy, he's making me really nervous, I want to get out of here,' " her sister, Alyssa Mendez, said at the time.

Alyssa added: "[Her friend] went to go pick up her up, she never showed, and her phone was off. That's the last anyone ever heard of her."

Her remains were found three months later by a dog walker on a beach north of Boston.

The arrest, which comes nine months after Mendez disappeared, is a relief to her family, as well as to law enforcement.

"This has been a long and painstaking investigation, with a single goal: justice for Jaimee Mendez," Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a statement.

Fleury, a convicted sex offender, insisted in interviews last fall that he had nothing to do with Mendez's disappearance, though he did admit that he was with her on the day she vanished.

In a telephone interview with The Boston Globe on Tuesday, Mendez's mother, Michelle Murray Mendez, said she's happy that Fleury, whom she long suspected, is finally in custody.

But she said, "Him sitting in jail watching flat-screen TV is not going to be justice for me. I want to know what he did to my daughter. I want to know everything."

She added: "The worst part is not knowing."
