Dr. Jeffrey Whiteside, 63, of Grand Chute, Wisconsin, was last seen walking away from the Ephraim Yacht Harbor Marina at 10:30 a.m. on June 29, according to The Post-Crescent. He hasn't been heard from since.
Right now, the disappearance is being investigated as a missing persons case, though authorities say they are keeping an open mind. "We're still searching for every possibility and staying open to every possible outcome," Pat McCarty, chief deputy at the Door County Sheriff's Department, said.
He added: "We don't know if he is missing on his own accord, or if there is something to it."
Whiteside and his wife, Kathi, own a unit at the Ephraim Yacht Harbor Condominiums and keep their boat across the street at the marina. They were in town on a summer vacation.
It's unknown what the couple was fighting about or why Kathi returned home to Grand Chute several hours later, leaving her husband without a car.
Whiteside, a pulmonary doctor, never made it to work the next morning. Kathi reported her husband missing two days later, according to Action News 2.
Police say the family is cooperating with authorities, though on Tuesday, it was reported that Kathi had retained a lawyer in connection with the case, according to the Door County Advocate.
Cara Thelen, a registered nurse who worked with Whiteside for 20 years, is shocked by her co-worker's disappearance. "It doesn't seem like him," she told the paper.
