Working with Jennifer Aniston sounds like it was a dream for Life of Crime's director Daniel Schechter.

"She wanted to do everything," he told PEOPLE on Tuesday of the actress, 45. "She wanted to do the stunts and the difficult scenes over and over again until we got it right. I was pleased that she pretty much did anything I asked her to do. If I had the balls or brains to ask her to do something, she was really game to deliver for the movie."

The film, both in theaters and On Demand on Aug. 29, is based on Elmore Leonard's novel The Switch, which is about a kidnapped woman's husband not wanting to pay her ransom. PEOPLE has a first look at the film's poster.

"I was thrilled when I saw it," Schechter said. "I loved it. I loved those pictures of the guys in the masks. Those two shots were taken from a screen test we did. We tried on a bunch of masks, and as soon as they put those two on, it was just kind of magical."

Schechter also gives Aniston's fiancé Justin Theroux two thumbs up.

"I met Justin at the premiere," Schechter told PEOPLE on Tuesday. "He came to see the movie when it finally premiered at Toronto and he was incredibly generous about me and the film and Jennifer's performance. He seemed really proud of her."

Schechter added that supportive was his "impression of the guy," explaining, "He was also just really nice to me as well. He gave me compliments about the movie and I appreciated that."
