Jennifer Garner is feeling thankful after her role as Christy Beam in Miracle from Heaven.

The film focuses on 10-year-old Anna Beam who lives with a chronic disorder, but is miraculously cured after she lives through an accident. As a mother of three, herself, Garner, 43, was touched by the movie.

"I think for most of us, it's playing pretend, but it's a pretty real story," she told PEOPLE. "I don't think you have to dig very deep when there's a child. The great thing for us at the end of the day is we can shake it off and go home and be surrounded by health, and that perspective was a real gift to the movie."

Garner stars alongside Kylie Rogers who formerly appeared in ABC's The Whispers, and Martin Henderson who plays Garner's husband, Kevin Beam.

Miracles from Heaven hits theaters on March 18.
