"They met in Nashville and have been dating for a while – they went to France together," a source close to the singer tells PEOPLE. "He treats her amazingly well and is a great guy. She's really happy."
On Sunday, Jewel, 41, shared a photo of herself with Whitehurst, 33, backstage at the Alejandro Escovedo Experience: The Leonard Cohen Influence in Austin, Texas.
And on Monday, the star posted a photo that showed Whitehurst on the field at the Alabama-Clemson national title game.
Jewel's friend Nancy O'Dell also confirmed the romance after she posted a photo with the new couple at the game.
"Love running in to my pal Jewel on the field," O'Dell captioned her Facebook photo. "Loved her from 1st time I met her & now she's dating a Clemson fella, Charlie Whitehurst= awesome!"
After six years of marriage, Jewel split from husband Ty Murray in 2014. Together for a decade, the former couple share 4½-year-old son Kase Townes.
Next up for Jewel: Her first tour since 2013. Starting in March, she'll be performing songs off her new record, Picking Up the Pieces, and sharing stories from her recent memoir, Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story.
"It's going to be really fun to get back out on the road,” she said in a statement. "I'm excited to share the stories behind some of my favorite and most personal songs in such an intimate setting."
Entertainment Tonight was first to announce the news.
