The late-night host tore into former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Monday night for her ongoing denial of global warming and her recent promotion of a documentary called Climate Hustle, which claims climate change is a hoax.
Kimmel launched his 7-minute attack by playing a recent interview in which Palin praises the documentary for empowering people to question the "inconsistent data" around "global warming or climate change, whatever they're calling it today."
"It's perpetuated and repeated so often that too many people believe that, 'Oh, well, if 97 percent of all scientists believe that man's activities are creating changes in the weather, who am I to question that?' "
"Exactly," Kimmel responded. "Who are you to question that?"
"I have a theory," the host continued. "I think maybe Sarah Palin wants global warming. It's cold in Alaska. It would be welcome up there. But, the idea that she knows more than 97 percent of scientists – it's offensive and dangerous. No matter what Sarah Palin and these geniuses she surrounds herself with try to tell you, climate change is not a liberal versus conservative thing, but the people who profit from ignoring it want you to believe it is."
"In general, politicians on the left believe humans are the major cause of climate change and politicians on the right say no … This isn't a matter of political opinion. It's a matter of scientific opinion, in this case, overwhelming scientific opinion."
But Kimmel didn't ask viewers to take his word for it. He concluded by playing a video featuring several real climate scientists who confirmed that yes, climate change is "definitely happening" and no, they are not "f------ with you."
