He may be known for his smooth R&B sound, but when John Legend took the stage with Lee Ann Womack in Franklin, Tennessee, he felt right at home crooning country.

"I'm kind of a country boy," Legend told the crowd at a taping for their episode of CMT Crossroads. Noting that he grew up in the "small town" of Springfield, Ohio, he said, "I had a twang for the first 20 years of my life, then I moved to New York and I lost it."

"I'm going to give it back to you!" Womack declared, before the two took on her 2000 crossover smash "I Hope You Dance."

After the singers traded lines on Legend's mega-hit "All of Me" and Womack's new single, "The Way I'm Livin,'" the country star urged Legend to consider going back to those small-town roots.

"I want to hear you make a country record," she told him.
