Since winning The Voice in December, Jordan Smith has been hard at work recording his upcoming album, and now – after PEOPLE gave his fans have their first listen at his first single last month – he's released his first music video.
On Friday, Smith dropped the video for his first single, "Stand in the Light," which he released on Feb. 12.
"[This song] is my own story set to music," he tells PEOPLE exclusively about the song. "It was a joy to work alongside Stephan Moccio to bring such a beautiful song with such an important, powerful message to life."
And though it has to be nerve-racking to release his first single, "my only hope is that it will inspire and encourage my fans as much as it inspires me each time I sing it," he says.
Smith's debut album, Something Beautiful, will be released March 18 (preorder it here).
After taking home the prize last year, Smith, 22, opened up to PEOPLE about overcoming confidence issues. "The show's proven to me, and I hope it's proven to America, it doesn't matter what's on the outside," he said. "What matters is on the inside and how you use the gifts you've been given."
Smith – who got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Kristen Denny at the start of the new year – also revealed he looks up to artists like Adele (whom he actually surpassed on the iTunes charts during the show).
"I think she's an unconventional pop singer," he said. "What she has is special, and people are obviously drawn to that and love that about her. I want to have a career like that where people are moved by my music."
