Could Katy Perry and John Mayer be heating up again?
Perry, 30, and Mayer, 37, who called it quits last February, were seen together in Beverly Hills over the weekend. It was the first time the former couple had been spotted together publicly since their breakup.
"They're two very strong-willed people," a source told PEOPLE at the time. "Despite caring about each other very much and wanting to make it work, they are, at their core, quite different."
So is their on-and-off relationship back on?
"They actually buried the hatchet a while back, and they are friends," a Perry source tells PEOPLE, adding that the outing might not necessarily signal a rekindled romance.
"It's not a surprise they would see each other socially," the source added. "She's focused on her career and making herself happy."
Perry – who most recently has been linked to DJ and producer Diplo – spoke out about her past relationships, and what she's learned from them, in the October issue of Harper's Bazaar.
"I had to learn about taking care of myself before I could take care of others," she said. "I want to mommy everyone. I want to take care of them. I want to save them, and I forget myself in the meantime."
Reps for Perry and Mayer had no immediate comment.
