Is this the summer of Kickstarter? We've seen no shortage of drives for off-the-wall causes, foremost among them that infamous Kickstarter for potato salad that has so far received more than $50,000 in pledges. But potato salad hasn't cornered the market on weird ideas. Here are five that caught our eyes.

A Breaking Bad sequel starring Val Kilmer and Slash

No, really. Before it was unceremoniously canceled, Anastaia would have picked up where Breaking Bad left off, with Walter White lying on the floor. Is Walter dead? As creator Lawrence Shepherd explains, Anastaia would have starred Val Kilmer and Guns N' Roses rocker Slash as the U.S. Marshals trying to find out. Also, Laura San Giacomo would have been there, Shepherd says, as well as singer Janelle Mashonee. Based on this Tweet by Kilmer, it would seem as though the desired cast wasn't notified about their potential involvement before the Kickstarter went up.

Also tantalizing: The URL for the Kickstarter mentions Nathan Lane and Slash, not Val Kilmer. We really must know how Nathan Lane would have fit into this.

The First-Ever All-Pug Production of Hamlet

Admit it: You may have never wanted this, but now that you know it could happen, you kind of think it should.

Project creator Kevin Broccoli, who tactfully notes that the production would actually just be the first all-pug Hamlet that he's aware of, deems the smush-faced dogs "nature's most glorious creation." But don't think he hasn't considered the challenges this project would face.

Problem: "Keeping the pugs happy." Solution: "I love pugs."

Problem: "Feeding the pugs." Solution: "We'll use the money for food."

Problem: "Finding pugs who don't mind being part of a five-hour play." Solution: "We may have to let them nap onstage."

Pug-lovers, be warned. Should the play follow the script, most of the play's cast doesn't survive to the end. That's a lot of dogs playing dead.

As of press time, the all-pug HamletPuglet, if you will – had raised $1,500 of its $5,000 goal.

Turning Laura Palmer's House from Twin Peaks into a Bed and Breakfast

If you're a David Lynch fan, you may have heard that the Washington home that served as Laura Palmer's house on Twin Peaks is up for sale. While it would make a lovely home for any family, fan site Welcome to Twin Peaks is pushing to raise the cash to turn this bit of pop culture history into a hotel, museum and tourist destination.

You're probably already asking who in their right mind would want to stay in a home associated with some of the most disturbing scenes ever to air on primetime broadcast television. Easy: Twin Peaks fans would. They don't kid around.

The fight for the Palmer house has, as of press time, earned more than $8,000 of its $600,000 goal.

A Cooler Cooler – the Coolest, in Fact

You've probably dragged your cooler out of the storage closet for this summer's outdoor fun. But have you noticed how horribly drab and outdated that thing is? Prepare yourself for a solution to the humdrum coolers of yesterday.

There's a lot to like about the Coolest Cooler beyond the fact that it looks like a camper van some well-to-do hipster couple would take on vacation. Read all about it in this People Great Ideas post.

Hands, Touching Hands – Except Not

The Frebble is neither a Star Trek alien nor a Muppet spin-off franchise. It's actually a very cool product that could help people bridge geographic distance. We can talk on the phone and even use FaceTime to see who we're talking to, but being far apart means we can't physically engage our loved ones. If produced, the Frebble would allow us to do the next best thing.

It works like this: You hold one of the units in your hand, and your far-off counterpart holds the other. When you squeeze your Frebble, the other one responds so that the person holding it will feel the pressure you're exerting. Essentially, kinda-sorta, you're holding hands from afar.

The Frebble has currently raised more than $18,000 of its $50,000 goal.
