In an exclusive sneak peek at Lifetime's upcoming series The Mother/Daughter Experiment, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 51, and her youngest daughter, 21, reveal how being in the public eye changed the dynamic of their relationship.
"It's been a roller coaster ride," says Richards, who has been battling addiction in the spotlight and was arrested last year for public intoxication and shoplifting. "Being part of the Housewives has been an experience. It really hurt me because I was struggling with certain things."
Jackson then admits in a separate interview: "I feel like I'm her caretaker because she's fragile physically and emotionally. And it does overwhelm me."
Richards has to wipe away tears at watching her daughter's confession, which is followed by her own admission that "I need to remember how my decisions do affect Kimberly."

As mother and daughter sit together to take in the footage, Jackson says the negative reaction her mother has gotten from viewers has "affected her a lot, and I feel like somebody needs to protect her."
And Richards admits in a separate interview: "I did the best that I could, so to let my kids down in any way, it's devastating."
But the shadow of secrets continues to hang over Richards, who successfully hid her addiction from the RHOBH cameras for several seasons. She says cryptically to the fellow participants in the group therapy session: "There is something that's going on at home that has nothing [to do with this]," says Richards. "There's other things."
When and how those issues will surface remains to be seen when The Mother/Daughter Experiment premieres March 1 at 10 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
