No, the 25-year-old thespian isn't retiring from acting; especially not after becoming the very first American actress to win a French Oscar last February for her performance in Clouds of Sils Maria. Stewart is just looking forward to her next big thing – directing.
"I really want to do that now," the actress tells Vanity Fair of gunning for the director's chair. "I think that I'd be pretty good at getting people on the same plane and on the sort of train," she says. "Yeah. I can't f---ing wait."
The type of film she wants to direct is unclear, but it will likely not be anything close to the near-death experience she had on her latest film, Personal Shopper.
"I genuinely felt closer to death on a movie than I've ever felt," Stewart says of the film, which reunites her with her Sils director Olivier Assayas and she describes as a "thoughtful, really meditative ghost story." "It's like 16-hour days, six days a week, running my f---ing ass around Paris," Stewart says. "Literally nonstop running. [Assayas] sort of gave me this opportunity for a short period of time to contemplate infinity in a really disarming and scary way, that's like little questions that you ignore when you lay your head down on your pillow at night. Like, 'I'm alone, who am I?' All those things, they plague her."
Personal Shopper is currently in post production and will likely be released this year.
