Few things in life are as sweet as a springtime engagement, and we got two this week – giving PEOPLE readers plenty to smile about.

The first was particularly heartwarming, given the bride-to-be's long recovery from a frightening accident a few years ago. And the second was jawdropping, if only because of the incredible ring.

Below, check out the five stories that got the strongest reactions on PEOPLE.com this week. And let us know what you think of every story by clicking on the icons at the bottom.

Love They get the cutest couple award, and soon they'll be husband and wife. Jason Kennedy didn't just propose to Lauren Scruggs; he managed to keep it a secret beforehand. "I've always told him, 'I will know what you are doing.' No one has ever been able to surprise me," says Scruggs, who made a miraculous recovery after an accident involving an airplane propeller in 2011. "He is one of the most thoughtful people I know … I am so happy."

Wow Speaking of surprises, Jeffré Phillips had quite a sparkly one for La Toya Jackson when he proposed to her at Hawaii's Trump Hotel – a ring with a 10-carat round center diamond surrounded by 7.5 carats in round diamonds set in a platinum band. Phillips designed the ring himself, and hid it on a dessert tray during dinner. "It's very, very big," Jackson admits. "It's a heavy one, too."

Angry In grimmer news, readers reacted angrily to a horrifying story from Wisconsin, where two 12-year-old girls allegedly stabbed a 12-year-old friend 19 times in the woods. One of the girls told police they were trying to become "proxies" of Slender Man, a mythological demon-like character they learned about online.

Sad In other sad news, Bill and Giuliana Rancic revealed this week that their surrogate suffered a miscarriage recently. "We experienced a miscarriage years ago when we were trying with Giuliana, so we had been keeping the pregnancy news tight to the vest," Bill said. "It's something that we didn't see coming. We were devastated."

LOL Far and away the most hilarious story of the week came from South Korea, where a Chinese businessman was stranded at an airport after his 4-year-old son got creative with a pen all over his passport. Not-so-great artwork, but pretty great for a laugh.
