Laverne Cox has plenty of good news to carry her into the weekend. On Thursday, the Orange Is the New Black actress became the first openly transgender woman to receive an Emmy nomination, snagging a place in the outstanding guest actress in a comedy series category for her role in the Netflix hit. And now, she is garnering added buzz for her newest role: music video superstar.
Cox is one of the many stunning ladies featured in John Legend's new video for his hit "You and I (Nobody in the World)." The video, which also includes an appearance from Legend's supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen, focuses on the faces of females of all ages, sizes, and ethnicities.
Thanks so much @johnlegend. What a beautiful songs and video. I am honored to be a part of it. I love your music & your exquisite voice.— Laverne Cox (@Lavernecox) July 10, 2014
"If your mirror won't make it any clearer/ I'll be the one to let you know/ Out of all the girls/ You my one and only girl," Legend croons over the clip as viewers watch Cox remove her makeup, while another woman reveals her mastectomy, and dozens of females contemplate their own reflections.
The message of Legend's song and video is a gorgeously poignant one. Ladies, "you don't have to try," because your beauty radiates from who you are, not what you see in the mirror.
