California police believe they've caught the gunman who fired the shots that killed 1-year-old Autumn Johnson two weeks ago in the Compton section of Los Angeles.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested Ray Patterson, 23, on Monday afternoon, according to a statement from investigators.

Patterson is being held without bail, the statement reads.

Police are not revealing how they came to identify Patterson as a suspect in the fatal Feb. 9 shooting. Additional suspects are still being sought, the statement says.

Johnson, who had celebrated her first birthday a week before her death, was shot in the head while lying in her crib, police say.

Several bullets were fired into the child's home. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related – with Autumn's father the intended target.

Police who were called to Autumn's home drove the child to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses told police they saw two men flee the scene of the shooting in a blue-colored sedan.

It is unclear whether Patterson has entered a plea to the murder charge or if he has an attorney.
