San Diego police have made an arrest in the death of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase behind a local hotel earlier this month, PEOPLE confirms.

Joshua Matthew Palmer, 33, was arrested on Friday for the murder of 21-year-old Shauna Haynes, Lt. Ray Valentin of the San Diego Police Department tells PEOPLE. Palmer has been charged with one count of murder.

Local media reports the pair were dating, but Valentin says, "We have not confirmed they were dating." He said they worked together at a local restaurant.

The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, Valentin says.

Information of whether Palmer has been assigned a lawyer or has entered a plea is not available.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Haynes' funeral expenses.
