Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth enjoyed a long, passionate kiss at the end of their performance on the American Music Awards.
The collaborators were onstage singing their hit duet "Marvin Gaye" – the chorus of which goes, "Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on" – when, after the final notes, Trainor made a come-hither motion with her hands, and they locked lips, at points wrapping their arms around one another.
The singers' PDA-fest lasted after the performance ended and cameras stopped rolling – and it was, indeed, premeditated. Puth, 23, warned PEOPLE on the red carpet ahead of the awards that there would be "a lot of making out" in his performance with Trainor, 21. "Get ready," he joked.
Luke Bryan made a crack at their steamy stunt. The Nashville favorite was still reeling from their kiss when he took the stage to accept his award for best country male.
As for whether there should be buzz about a new relationship? "They're just friends," a Trainor source tells PEOPLE – and the pair clarified themselves on social media.
